Practical Life work is a great way to bring Montessori into the home, ask your child to help with simple tasks such as setting the table and sweeping up spills.

Declutter your child’s space, less is more! It can be overwhelming for a child to look at a shelf packed full of toys and books. They are much more likely to be successful at independent play and learning with a few clear choices. Just like at school, have a mat that they can use as their work space, and when they are finished with their work encourage them to put it away and roll up their mat before moving on to the next toy or task. A tray also makes for a great workspace. You can even rotate their toys on the toy shelf, to keep things interesting and still limit choices. 

We try to use more statements instead of yes or no questions. For example, it is time to use the restroom, instead of do you need to use the restroom, this helps to gently guide your child in the right direction.
