We are so grateful!
This is the time of year when we are reminded of all the things we have to be grateful for.
Here at Discovery our list is quite long.
We are truly thankful for all the snack bag donations, supplies, and other items that have been brought in over the past few months. These caring gestures help save the school money and give the children a nice sense of sharing.
Show-n-Tell
We are always grateful when we can have guests come in a share.
On Monday Nov. 2nd Arwen’s grandma Jane came in with her guitar and three recorders, the tanner, alto and the soprano to sing with our friends at circle time. We were also joined by her puppets Mozart the monkey and his friend the giraffe. Thank you Jane!
Saxophone day
Nov. 6th is Saxophone Day. The Saxophone is a classical woodwind instrument. It is an essential instrument in jazz bands, symphonic bands, marching bands and more. It’s only fitting that this great instrument has a day of recognition all to its own.
The Saxophone was invented around 1840. It was created by Adolphe Sax, a Belgian musical instrument maker. The sax is made of brass. If you or someone you know plays the saxophone please let us know if we can schedule a mini group time demonstration.
Ce qui se passe en classe de Francais
(What’s Happening in French Class)
Life on the Farm will continue throughout November and then the theme for French class will be changing in December. It will be all about transportation. The children have been singing at home and in the car, and we have had tremendous feedback from the parents who are listening to the French CDs. We strongly recommend ordering the support book and CD!
What’s Cooking
We will be making homemade butter to spread on freshly toasted breads during November (November 17th is Homemade Bread Day). Bread donations are always welcome as well as fruit jellies and butter.
Conferences
The Toddler, Preschool and Kindergarten conferences were extremely informative …
I’m sure you would all agree that it’s invaluable to be able to sit down and share what is happing here at school (and at home).
Montessori Workshop
And speaking of home, several parents have voiced a desire to be more informed on the Montessori Philosophy. With this in mind, we would like to set up a workshop for those of you who would like to know more about Montessori and how you can implement Montessori in your home routine. We have posted a poll on our Facebook page, please vote on which day would work best Saturday, November 7th from 9-11 am or Monday, November 9th from 6:30-8:30 pm. We will select the day with the most votes. We would ask for a small fee to cover child care for this event. As of now it looks like Monday evening has the most votes, we will post the final date tomorrow Thursday, November 5th. Please let us know if childcare will be needed.
Little Free Library
We will be building our Little Free Library and would love some help. If you would like to come in and help us build please let a teacher know.
Geography Corner
October geography focus was on Europe the kindergarteners went to the French “Le Creperie and Bakery”. What nice manners, everyone remembered to use their French when thanking the waiter. Merci beaucoup!
In November, we will focus on South America. Remember you can send in items from countries in South America for your child’s show and tell. The Kindergarteners will travel to a local Brazilian restaurant November 20th (login and check the events page for more information).
Fall Festival Photos
Our Fall Festival was a huge success. We all enjoyed the pumpkin muffins the preschoolers prepared, and the fun Hayride from Colorado Carriage and Wagon. If you haven’t picked up your child’s group photo yours is waiting for you, just ask a teacher. We have shared some fun photos in the private “Groups” on the website, feel free to share your photos from the festival too!
Halloween
Halloween was so fun with lots of cute costumes. The Toddlers paraded for the preschoolers and the preschoolers paraded for the Toddlers. Everyone enjoyed the Spooky Parfaits. Thank you everyone who donated fruit and yogurt!
The Spotlights on You:
Mrs. Heughins lives in Loveland with her husband Cody. She is currently signed up to take the Montessori Toddler Training and is excited to get started on that. She has worked for the past 4 years with various ages in Montessori and has landed on the Toddler class training.
Here are a few of her favorite things… photography, hanging out with her family, and especially “chillin” with her nephew. Here favorite color is pink (if you haven’t already figured that out ). She enjoys traveling and going out to eat.
Her favorite trip was to Europe, where she traveled to France, Italy, Spain and Monaco.
It’s Can Drive time, we will be collecting cans for our annual can drive to support the House of Neighborly Service. Our goal is to make an earth in the school yard with the cans. Please help us achieve this goal and send in your donations! We will have the kindergarten students drop off the donations right before the winter break.
